Um fio português, completamente produzido em Portugal pelo projeto Abenaia e que foi um orgulho e uma honra para mim poder pintar. Fio de merino português, sem qualquer tratamento.
It took me a while to decide the colors to use when dyeing this special yarn. It is not easy to find a Portuguese base to dye and this was certainly a thrill.
I naturally dyed the madder red about 2 years ago, and the other colors around May 2022. The madder is the only naturally dyed color. The others are dyed with acidic reaction dyes, using citric acid ( a natural element ) and they were a real joy to dye. The way the fibre takes the color keeping it soft and natural was just surprising and rewarding to my eyes. I hope you enjoy. Tis is a limited colection of 10 50g - 200m skeins per color.
"Abenaia is a familiar project of local agroecological dynamization raised in the woods of São Mamede Natural Park (Marvão, Portugal). Through the use of Portuguese merino wool we try to involve the shepherds and recover the artisan work of wool processing. Buying wool to local shepherds makes their work more sustainable, sheep are free range and mulesing is not practiced.
This is a special batch of merino yarn that was spun in the mill, this resulted in a woolen spun yarn that is non superwash, not bleached and has no silicone based softeners, it is a 2 ply yarn with 200m per 50g.
Hand wash with wool wash and dry flat away from direct sun light."
